Can You Be A Leader Through Your Failures?

Are you the leader you want to be?

We just finished the Olympics and it was a true celebration of athletic excellence. The whole world watched rooting for their countries favorite athletes. But out of all of the competitors, only one person in each sport would receive the gold medal. Does that mean that all of the other athletes in attendance were failures? Not at all! Just to make it to the Olympics is a feat in itself.

Consider the Jamaican Bobsled team that was featured in the movie Cool Runnings. What about Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards ski-jumper for Great Britain came in last but got a standing ovation at the closing ceremonies in the 1988 Winter Olympics. Sometimes the fates seem to have it in for an athlete like 400-metre runner Derek Redmond who tore a hamstring at the 1992 Games in Barcelona. With all of their dreams and hopes invested in the greatest competition in four years, it can all be taken away with a bump, stumble, torn muscle, faulty equipment or just taking their eye off the goal.

Every network marketer has faced similar losses (failures) but the challenge is this: Can you be a leader through your failures? I say YES. Even if you have never made a dime in network marketing, you can be a inspiration as long as you do not stay down. A true leader gets up and asks a few questions like: What can I learn through this? How can I not make the same mistake again? Do I need a new coach? How can I teach others not to make the same mistakes so they can avoid what I had to go through?

A true leader is focused on improving. By improving he will grow through his experiences and share those with others. Ask yourself a few of these questions: What have I found to be essential for my network marketing business? Am I improving or staying stagnate? Do I feel comfortable sharing my failures and mistakes with others? It maybe that in your first business venture you spent more than you made and as a result you vowed to set boundaries in place for that not to happen in the future. Could you share that with others?

You may not be on the stage giving an inspirational speech but you will have a loyal following of grateful team members because you lead by example and show that you care. You share with your team and prospects what has and has not worked for you. This will encourage them to share the same and you can learn from them. Wow, that’s what team work is all about.

One last thought: The last person to cross the finish line of the New York City Marathon in 2007 finished a day after the winner. Zoe Koplowitz finished in 28 hours, 45 minutes. That's slow, but she did it on crutches and with back and knee braces. She suffers from both diabetes and MS. She has also written a book, The Winning Spirit: Life Lessons Learned in Last Place.

We all have strengths that we can share to encourage others. Tap into the leader within and share yourself openly.
